A Nationwide Movement Rooted in Chicago - Building Collabortion in Salt Lake City, Utah

Vintage Store Day originated in Chicago, created by popular local curated vintage shops Lost Girls Vintage and Rare Form. These shops have been at the forefront of the sustainable fashion movement in Illinois, bringing vintage lovers together through pop-ups, markets, and unique in-store experiences.

So - what is their goal with Vintage Store Day? It’s to create a nationwide event similar to Record Store Day or Free Comic Book Day, starting an annual tradition that encourages shoppers to explore locally owned curated vintage shops in their area, discover one-of-a-kind pieces, and embrace a more sustainable approach to fashion. Their vision transformed a local initiative into a nationwide movement, with over 75+ independent vintage stores across 25 states participating.

This has been a real grassroots effort to unite vintage stores nationwide. Vintage encompasses a lot, including clothing, home decor, and art, but most of all, it is an appreciation for reuse, upcycling, and preservation. During the pandemic, when the supply chains shut down and no one could buy furniture from the big box stores, many turned to buying vintage from their communities and kept that money in their local economy. While the circumstances are different now, the benefits are still the same: we can preserve and appreciate the past while supporting our local economy and our neighborhood businesses. I think people are championing these values now more than ever, and that is why we have a thriving vintage community, which deserves a day of celebration.

About Vintage Store Day

Vintage Store Day is a grassroots movement celebrating the vintage and secondhand fashion industry. Pioneered by Lost Girls Vintage, Rare Form, and other leading vintage stores in Chicago, this national initiative highlights the environmental, cultural, and artistic value of vintage shopping while supporting independent resellers and local businesses across the U.S. Vintage Store Day not only fosters a sense of community among vintage lovers but also brings national attention to the importance of shopping secondhand as an alternative to fast fashion. 2025 is the very first year!

Vintage Store Day in Utah and Beyond

Salt Lake City’s vintage scene has grown rapidly, and this day is truly a celebration of that growth - with dozens of independent shops across the city offering highly curated collections, sustainable fashion alternatives, and a personalized shopping experience that big-box retailers can’t match.

We opened NOUVE last April after operating online for 4 years and after having a popup downtown last January it was clear that SLC LOVES VINTAGE and loves to support small, locally owned shops. We are excited to celebrate vintage and good design with this city any day of the year but look forward to going all out during this event and hopefully make it a yearly affair people mark on their calendars for years to come!
